HERE'S WHATS HAPPENING

I want this blog to be more than just a place to get the Phraze. Therefore I have pulished some thoughts from Fran Scott about what playing The Big Trivia Show means to her and her team.

"Trivia for us is a neighbor/friend get together. One thing can be said about every player no matter what the team, it is a very humbling experience. Think about it. You are sitting in your chair and Steadman asks : What color is Marvin Gardens in Monopoly? Or how many e’s tiles are in a standard Scrabble game? Simple little questions, right? No. there are so many things tied up to that one answer.

Well of course that has got to be… green..no wait yellow, no….I am positive. Then you go through the game feeling as if you have just won Jeopardy for your team. Surely the Nobel Prize will be next. In your mind, that was the hardest question of the round, and you got it right…Those people spouting off the periodic table are nothing compared to you? You know the color of Marvin Gardens. You have been playing since you were 5. So why is it, that now you are on the hot seat?? Do you realize you have missed half of the game now worrying? And why? To look good in front of the others, who are wondering the same thing you are? I am just as good as they are….A few minutes later, Steadman gives the answers. You start to sweat a little bit. Oh my gosh, what if I am wrong? What if all of these people find out how stupid I really am? A little bead a of sweat rolls down the back of your neck, just to remind you that you are worried…..the color of Marvin Gardens is Yellow. Of course now you are sitting there in a heap of relief..A puddle of trivia testosterone. But who cares…you were right.
My hang-up? Word Jumbles. Since I was a kid, it is hard for me to complete them…and now I have to do it in front of people, and try to beat them? Oh crap. I have found some many new words and different spelling of words, that I am considering writing a book. I am like a bad mechanic in so many ways…They have extra parts sometimes, and I have extra letters. The really dumb thing??? I try to add those letters to the end of the word just to make it fit…..It is really not a pretty sight. It has gotten to be another contest within our group….Probably because they know I am jumbly-challenged. So if you are out are at a bar, and see some women getting really excited over the fact that she just figured out a word jumble, just clap for her and be happy she is not on your team………………………."
