Do You Believe In Unlikely Events??
Hello Biggies and Loyal Players of the Big Trivia Show.
Most of you have been coming to play the Big Trivia Show for a while now.
For some of you, it’s been a couple of months. For others, it’s been a year, maybe even two. But I bet some of you did not know this about me, I‘m a small business owner. Well, I WAS a small business owner.
My wife and I had a 49% ownership stake in the Olde Cup and Saucer in Longwood which we helped open in the summer of 2006. The original idea of purchasing an ownership stake was to have a secure investment and to be able to watch it build into something sustainable and of course, profitable.
Much like many of you, things were humming right along until the economy decided to recede like a hairline and things changed drastically. I was forced to find a new profession in the Fall of 2007 which I finally did in early 2008. Of course, being without a steady paycheck for a while makes you re-evaluate everything including having a 49% ownership stake in a relatively new business. Not to mention, established businesses were being chewed up and spit out. Hell, if Bennigans couldn’t survive, what makes you think all 900 square feet of my loose tea and coffee business could?
Well, it did (although it was in ICU on life support). The debt was piling up and things were looking grim. I had been desperately trying to sell my stake since I lost my job back in 07 but the other owner couldn’t afford to buy me out. We weren’t able to get ahead and the other owners and I had decided we could no longer go on. Our Going Out of Business Sale was set for July 26th. We needed a miracle (or at least an unlikely event).
That is exactly what we got this weekend.
Someone stepped up and agreed to buy my portion of the business ensuring the business would stay open for the foreseeable future!
This made my year!
Not only because I was able to save part of my investment, but I really want to see the business thrive even if I will no longer be a part of it. I truly wish the Olde cup and Saucer the very best and I want to encourage you to stop by and check it out. Support local business!! You know, the one’s who didn’t receive a government bailout or a dime of stimulus money.
You have to smile for the little guy who survived the recessions best shot and is still going. I know I am.

It’s time to announce our BTS Team of the Week. As you know (unless you’re brand new to the blog), I recently went back to host Friday Happy Hour Trivia at Copper Rocket Pub in Maitland. Most of the teams that play that show were there during my first go around. I think it’s safe to say that most of the time, I Like Beer was in the running for the Grand Prize. After all, they were the Copper Rocket Team of the Year for 2008. Apparently, they had hit a bit of a slump while I was gone and had not won since I left. That slump ended this week as they took it to the competition with the form they showed in 08. I like to think it was my return that inspired them to victory. Perhaps, they were sober.
Either way, it is my pleasure to congratulate our BTS Team of the Week…..

Perfection
Hello Biggies and Loyal Players of the Big Trivia Show.
It finally happened!
Usually I reserve discussing weekly results until later in the Blog but when something this impressive occurs, exceptions have to be made. This week at Coasters, a team by the name of Its Supposed To Hurt, That's Wy They Call It An Ass Whoopin (How appropriate huh?)achieved perfection.In my two years of hosting trivia, many have tried and none had ever accomplished until now. A perfect score in our Three Round Game. 31 out of 31 questions (one extra point question was also asked) for a total possible score of 81. This plus 5 extra points for correctly identifying the Phraze That Payz gave a grand total of 86 points and propelling them into Big Trivia immortality.
It reminded of me of some of the others who have come close in the two years of the Big Trivia Show. Teams like...

I’m Baaaaack (and not just from the beach)
Hello Biggies and Loyal Players of the Big Trivia Show.
Did ya miss me? I can honestly say that I did miss each and every one of you although it was nice to get an extended va-cay with my beautiful family. We all need some R and R regardless of our chosen professions and it was awesome. Of course, I would like to thank Cat Hicks for holding it down while I was away. It can be a bit overwhelming especially for a newbie, and I am happy Cat was able to step in and keep the shows going. Big Thanks Cat! You’re A Pro!!
With that said, I have not had a chance to find out the results of last week’s contests except one. That one being the Friday return of the Big Trivia Show to Copper Rocket Pub in Maitland!! What a turnout we had for the first show back. It was good to see some old friends and make some new ones too. That show has and is always such a blast. I am so excited to be a part of it again. Thanks Copper Rocket!
As for our BTS Team of the Week, it would only stand to reason that the winner would have to come from Copper Rocket right? After all, it was the only show I got the chance to host this week AND the game was a tight one to the end. The award could go to a couple of different teams but we have to go with our grand prize winners.

I’m Outta Here
Hello Biggies and Loyal Players of the Big Trivia Show.
Well, if you haven’t heard by now, I am taking next week off! That’s right, I’m heading for the beautiful beaches of North Carolina to spend time with my wonderful family. In the meantime, the show will go on.
Cat Hicks will be stepping in next week so please come on out like you normally do and I will see each and every one of you on July 10th at Copper Rocket!

As for our BTS Team of the Week, we honor one of our Hall of Fame teams that swept both games at Smokey Bones in grand style. Its always great when these guys come to play. However, I am also honoring this team as two of its founding members are moving.
I just want to thank Jessica Myers and Will Hazzard for their weekly loyalty and dedication to playing the game. They started at Rivals way back when and came to Smokey Bones soon after. They were elected into the BTS Hall of Fame earlier this year and will always have that honor. They are also great people that deserve all the good things in life.
Thanks Will and Jessica for your friendship first, and your dedication second. I will miss you. Good luck! As for the other members, I haven’t forgotten about you. Therefore, It is my pleasure to congratulate our BTS Team of the Week…..
